Tuitions — a necessary evil

Tuitions — a necessary evil

It is not correct that private tuitions are popular because of lapses on the part of schools and colleges. It is an evil caused by those parents who do not have time to devote to their children to solve their minor difficulties. This is the age of cut throat competition. Students are under extreme stress to do something extraordinary. This situation coupled with lack of support from their parents, has given rise to the evil of tuition. Generally the schools and school teachers are blamed for this wide-spread evil. Some people believe that the standard of education in schools has improved a lot. This is due to competition among the public schools to give their best in the field of education. Therefore, private tuitions are highly rewarding. They are result oriented even for mediocre students. The fact of the matter is that schools are not paying adequate attention to class room teaching. Incompetent and semi literate teachers who are ill paid are employed by the institutions boasting of higher success rate. Their basic aim is commercial. When teachers are not well paid they often force students to take private tuition from them. As a result students go to tuition centers run by their own school teachers. It is a kind of coercion. Those who are not able to pay end up as failures. The condition in government schools is no better. Teachers are well paid but they are not willing to teach in class rooms. They lure the students to join their tuition classes. In fact the real cause of the evil lies in the fact that both the private and public schools have not been able to evolve a system to keep a check on their teachers. There is no provision for extending extra attention to the weak students. This inadequate attention on the part of the administration is responsible for the curse of tuitions. It appears that tuition culture has come to stay.
